Fort Jackson, South Carolina is where most Soldiers are trained to be Army Strong! We are the Army’s largest basic training installation and also provide advance initial training for other military occupational specialties. We’re located in the middle of Columbia, South Carolina which is one of the tenth fastest growing cities with a Military population.

 Off-post Housing.  Our Housing Services Office (HSO) located at 4514 8th Division Rd. is your first point of contact for housing – whether on or off the installation.  HSO will assist you in finding suitable and affordable housing in the local community, provide the list of Off-Limits Establishments, school and community info, deposit waivers, etc.

HSO will provide you with the most up to date information available on renting or purchasing a home in the surrounding area. We can also assist with landlord tenant disputes, lease reviews and in/out check inspections.  Our goal is to ensure that you are well informed about housing in Columbia and the surrounding areas so your housing experience will be both pleasant and successful.  Permissive TDY (PTDY).  Upon arrival, Soldiers are encouraged to visit the HSO to receive housing hunting assistance.  However, Soldiers are to provide their signed DA Form 31 directly to Finance to receive PTDY entitlement.  The PTDY stamp is no longer required.

On-post Housing.  Fort Jackson Family Homes (formally Balfour Beatty Communities), in partnership with Fort Jackson, now manages and maintains on-post Family housing.  Our commitment to Soldiers, Families, retirees and civilians is to provide a home they can be proud of.  Our focus on the resident is evident in our efficient handling of all service requests, open door policy for Community Management, as well as our planned social events that are free to residents.  Visit our website at: www.ftjacksonfamilyhomes.com for more information.  Single/Unaccompanied Soldiers.  Bonafide single Soldiers in the ranks of private through sergeant are required to reside in the Freddie Stowers’ Single Soldier Complex.  A bonafide single Soldier is a Soldier who would be entitled to a housing allowance at the without dependent rate.  Approval to reside off post must be granted in advance by the Garrison Commander (GC).  A request for approval must be prepared on a DA Form 4187 (Personnel Action Form), processed through the Soldier’s chain of command and submitted to the Chief of Housing for processing.  Pets and/or household goods are not considered justifications to reside off-post.  The GC, or his designee, is the only person who may authorize single Soldiers to live off post and receive BAH at the w/o rate.  The approval/disapproval from the GC will be returned through the chain of command.  Living spaces is provided in the eight-building complex that also has two community buildings with 24-hour access.  All Single/Unaccompanied Soldiers are required to in/out process at the Housing Office located at 4514 8th Division Rd..  For more information contact your unit’s Barracks Manager at 803-751-5446/5427 or 1123/1148.  Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 0730 to 1600 hours or the Housing Office at 803-751-7567

 IHG Army Hotel.  IHG provides a host of guest services.  The main hotel, Fort Jackson Inn, located at 7550 Cherbourg St Avenue is open 24 hours to serve active duty service members, reservists, retirees and Family members.  Reservation inquires can be made by calling 803-782-9802 or 877-711-8326.
