The Public Affairs Office supports Fort Jackson by communicating on behalf of the installation and its leadership - providing clear, accurate, timely information to internal & external audiences. We employ a variety of communication strategies- including internal news and information products, media engagement, and public outreach.

MEDIA RELATIONS

The Media Relations section assists members of the news media in reporting on Fort Jackson, ensuring the American public has access to the information they need understand the military's role in the community, in support of the nation, and in the world. The Media Relations section is responsible for:

- Releasing information, arranging interviews, responding to media queries and coordination access to the installation for news media representatives.

- Inviting media to significant events that highlight missions, programs or issues of interest to the public.

- Providing media awareness and media engagement training to members of the Fort Jackson community.

REPORTING ON FORT JACKSON

This office facilitates all media relations for the installation to ensure media has gate access. This includes tenant and/or partnership organizations, and/or military/civil organizations who host events on Fort Jackson and want to invite the media.

MEDIA ESCORT REQUIREMENTS

For security reasons and per installation access rules, member of the media conducting news gathering activities on post must be escorted by a public affairs representative. RSVP in accordance with the instructions provided in the press release to coordinate a public affairs escort onto the installation.

All media entering the federal reservation of Fort Jackson must be escorted by a Fort Jackson public affairs officer. Media will be met at Fort Jackson Gate 2, Forest Drive (exit 12 off I-77) unless stated otherwise. This includes media attending an event where they are a sponsor.

For other stories, news media representatives may request assistance from the Media Relations section. Requests are granted when service and Department of Defense regulations allow and resources are available.

Possession of a military-issued identification card or visitor pass does not constitute permission to conduct news gathering activities on any part of the installation without a public affairs escort.

Service members and military family members who are interested in engaging the media are encouraged to contact Public Affairs for assistance.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Community Relations programs support and sustain relationships between service members &  leaders at Fort Jackson and citizens of neighboring civilian communities. Fort Jackson works closely with resident units, our Partners in Excellence (PIE) units, and 282nd Army Band, to fulfill community requests.
