Reporting on Fort Buchanan

As the only federal military installation in Puerto Rico, Fort Buchanan is a critical part of the local community and an important asset of the Department of Defense mission. Military missions, training opportunities, innovative installation and family support programs, and easy access from San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, are among the many reasons local, national, and international news organizations cover activities at Fort Buchanan.

Media office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (787) 707-4486 / 4013.

Media Escort Requirements

For security reasons, as a military installation, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Buchanan has access rules that require a public affairs escort to be present any time members of the media conduct news-gathering activities on post. For invited events, media should RSVP in accordance with the instructions provided in the news release to coordinate a public affairs escort onto the installation.
For other stories, news media representatives must request assistance from the Public Affairs Office. Requests are granted when service and DoD regulations as resources allow.

Military and their family members who are interested in engaging the media are encouraged to contact their unit’s command Public Affairs or if non available on the island, contact Fort Buchanan’s Public Affairs.
Please note:
To request access to the installation media representatives must show: driver’s license, vehicle registration and media ID. In case of special requirements such as electrical connectivity for equipment, please call the contact person.

Possession of a military-issued ID card or visitor pass does not constitute permission to conduct newsgathering activities on any part of the installation - including family housing - without a public affairs escort. Pass-holders and/or the visitor's military sponsor may be held responsible if a pass or military ID is misused.
