Mission
Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) provides exceptional personnel support for Soldiers on Fort Belvoir and in the National Capital Region (NCR) community to ensure unit readiness and their continuous ability to educate and train.
UNIT HISTORY
Headquarters Company Special Activities was established on 1 July 1957, as the Officer and Enlisted Student Detachments, Headquarters Military District of Washington. On 1 May 1963, these two detachments were combined and re-designated as the Student Detachment, Military District of Washington.
In October 1972, Headquarters Company U.S. Army Training and Student Detachment were joined and relocated from what was then South Post, Fort Myer, to Suitland Annex, Suitland, Md. These two companies were organized into the Student Company, Department of the Army Special Activities Personnel organization, DESAP, in March 1974. In 1976, construction of new barracks began in order for the company to move from Suitland to North Post, Fort Myer, closer to Battalion Headquarters. Student Company/DESAP was once again re-designated, this time as Headquarters Company Special Activities, 15 February 1977.
In 1993, the company relocated to the newly constructed barracks at Fort Myer and remained there until September 1997. They provided continuous support to the Soldiers assigned to the United States Total Army Personnel Command and to students attending courses at the Joint Military Intelligence College at Bolling Air Force Base. During this year, Headquarters received the designation of Headquarters and Headquarters Company.
On 1 October 1997, the company made its final move from Fort Myer to Fort Belvoir, under the command and control of Headquarters Battalion, Fort Belvoir. Headquarters Company was given the sole mission to exercise command and control authority over the company’s assigned Soldiers. This mission also extended to providing Soldier well-being and sustainment support, while yielding steadfast installation support to the Garrison.
In addition to its core responsibilities, HHC SA was also entrusted with providing administration and logistical support to a variety of agencies throughout the Military District of Washington: Army Materiel Command; Defense Threat Reduction Agency; National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency; National Deployment and Distribution Command; Joint Personal Property Shipping Office; Defense Logistics Agency; and the Defense Military Pay Office.
Today, HHC, Headquarters Company still resides at Fort Belvoir and continues to play a vital role to all the Soldiers and civilians on and off Fort Belvoir.
