Military Police Investigator

The Military Police Investigator Course is an eight-week course taught at the United States Army Military Police School, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. We train Military Police Investigators for the U.S. Armed Forces, Department of Defense and Allied Nations.

Prerequisites:

Army Students:

-Must be qualified as Active Duty or Reserve Component enlisted military police, PMOS 31B or 31E in grade E4 through E7;

-PMOS 31E must have been selected for assignment to perform investigative duties within a confinement facility;

-All Army must provide current Soldier Talent Profile from IPSS-A

-GT and ST score printouts from IPSS-A.

-USAR/NG must provide enlistment contract or orders awarding MOS qualifications of 31B or 31E.

-Must meet all prerequisites listed in AR 190-30, paragraph 2-1:

o   Be a U.S. citizen (native born or naturalized)

o   Have a general technical (GT) or skill technical (ST) score of 100 or higher.

o   Have at least 1 year of military service remaining as indicated by their expiration of term of service (ETS)

o   Have a final SECRET clearance (an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is acceptable provided the requisite personnel security investigation (PSI) has been submitted)

o   Have at least 1 year of military police experience

o   Be a high school graduate or have received the General Educational Development (GED) equivalent

o   Have not been previously dismissed, reassigned from, or relieved for cause from the MPI Program for misconduct or inefficiency

o   Be free of any records reflecting:

  Civilian or military convictions other than minor violations.

  Multiple or repeated arrests or apprehensions.

  Substantial record of juvenile misconduct, financial irresponsibility, or other conduct or behavior not in the best

  Meet physical fitness and weight standards IAW AR 600-9

  Possess a valid name check from USACRC indicating No Records Found (Must possess on day one of inprocessing) 

Marine Corps Students:

-Must comply with NAVMC 1200.1C (Pages 3-424 and 3-430)

o   Must be a U.S. citizen;

o   Must possess a GT score of 100 or higher (may not be waived);

o   Secret security clearance;

o   Must have normal color vision (waivers to this prerequisite will not be granted);

o   Must be 19 years old prior to completion of formal school;

o   Must have a minimum height requirement of 64 inches (In pursuit of safety, waivers to the height requirements in reference (at) will not be granted);

o   Must have a valid state driver's license;

o   Must have vision correctable to 20/20;

o   Must possess clarity of speech;

o   Must have no history of mental, nervous, or emotional disorders (Waivers to this requirement will not be granted);

o   Must have no convictions by special or general courts-martial or civil courts (except minor traffic violations); no non-judicial punishment (NJP) convictions involving domestic violence, or moral turpitude; or possession; use or transfer of dangerous drugs or marijuana; or identified on a urinalysis screening test as a user of illegal drugs or marijuana.  (Waivers will not be granted for convictions by special or general courts-martial or civil courts for crimes of domestic violence as per reference (bm), the Lautenberg Amendment

-Marines requesting lateral move must be screened by the local installation Provost Sergeant (MOS 5811) and recommended by the Provost Marshal.  The screening checklist can be downloaded from the Military Police Center of Excellence (COE) web page.

-All students must be in compliance with MCO 6110.3A � the Marine Corps Body Composition and Military Appearance Program (MCBCMAP)

Air Force Students:

Navy Students:

Foreign Military Students:

The materials contained in this course have been reviewed by the course developers in coordination with the Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473 foreign disclosure authority. Some component(s) of this course is (are) NOT releasable to students from foreign countries. See each Training/TATS Course TSP subcomponent/product for applicable FD restriction statement. This course is releasable to military students from foreign countries on a case-by-case basis. Foreign countries desiring to place students in the course must validate the student is currently working in Law Enforcement conducting criminal investigations, or will be upon completion of the course.

NOTE: THE ONLY EXCEPTION FOR ADMITTANCE OF FOREIGN MILITARY TO THIS COURSE IS: A LOCAL NATIONAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR (LNCI) (EUROPE) THAT WORKS FOR MPI SECTION, OR A KOREAN NATIONAL CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR (KNCI) (KOREA) THAT WORKS FOR MPI SECTION.

DOD Civilian Students:

-Must be employed as Investigators, GS 7 - 9, in hiring code 1810 series;

-Criminal Investigators, GS 9 -11, in hiring code 1811 series;

-Detective, GS 7 -9, in the hiring code GS 083 series, who have been nominated and approved by the appropriate MACOM.

-Police Officers, GS 5, in hiring code GS 083, who have been identified and selected for duties as an Investigator/Detective and nominated and approved by the appropriate MACOM may also attend the course

CAC Cards: U.S. Military personnel must possess a CAC card with valid security certificates and functional PIN number.

You will use your CAC card to access DOD computer systems during training. Check with your security manager to ensure your account stays active while TDY.

Army and Marine students will report to designated classroom at 0600hrs for height/weight screening.  Uniform will be seasonal IPFU (no spandex) with ID card. For specific reporting instructions, email the MPI course manager at usarmy.leonardwood.mp-schl.mbx.dotmpid@army.mil

1. Four (4) Sets of Utility Uniform for daily training

2. Marines: Woodland MCCUU (Prescribed by Commanding Officer Marine Det, FLW).

3. Civilians: Business casual attire. 

PHYSICAL TRAINING UNIFORM:

COURSE DATES APRIL  - SEPTEMBER:

1. Army: APFU shorts x 2, short sleeve shirt x 2, long sleeve shirt x 1, AR 670-1 compliant socks.

 PT jacket and pants recommended in case of cold weather.

2. Marines: USMC summer PT uniform, and jacket.

3. Air Force: USAF PT shorts x 2, short sleeve shirt x 2, and jacket.

4. Navy: Navy summer PFU.

5. Civilians are not required to attend PT but are allowed if they desire: Appropriate fitness clothes (no cut off sleeve shirts/tank tops, no vulgar graphics or wording, no revealing clothing). 

COURSE DATES SEPTEMBER - APRIL:

1. Army: APFU shorts x 2, short sleeve shirt x 1, long sleeve shirt x 2, AR 670-1 compliant socks.

 PT jacket and pants, fleece cap matching uniform worn, and gloves.

2. Marines: USMC winter PT uniform with appropriate head cover and gloves.

3. Air Force: USAF PT shorts, pants, shirt, sweat shirt, jacket, black gloves, and black, dark blue or sage green beanie cap (without logos).

4. Navy: Navy winter PFU.

5. Civilians are not required to attend PT but are allowed if they desire. (See above instructions). 

ADDITIONAL GEAR (suggested):

Wet weather jacket.

Gortex/field jacket (if attending class from September through April) with fleece cap/gloves.

Gloves appropriate for wear with you PT and duty uniforms for outdoor training.

BUSINESS CASUAL FOR ALL PERSONNEL:  

Students are allowed to wear business casual attire after the first week of instruction. Interviews and Interrogations block of instructions allows the wear of civilian business casual attire. NOTE: Acceptable civilian business casual attire in this academic environment is slacks, khakis, button up shirts, polo's (small logo's) 5-11 pants, shoes and belt. Students do not have to wear civilian attire during this block of instruction and have the option to wear their duty uniform. No blouses, skirts, open toes shoes, jeans or items with large prints or logos. No baggy, tight revealing or see-through clothing. All clothing must fit properly and display professionalism which is at the discretion of the MPID leadership and cadre. Hair and grooming standards will apply while in this training and classroom environment regardless of attire or branch of service.

Graduation occurs at 1000 on last days of course, and lasts approximately 30 minutes.  Please schedule departure itinerary so it does not conflict with graduation, as graduation is a requirement for course completion.
