Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) (Intensive- Non ATRRS Course)
CIT is a 5-day training to aid first responders in identifying persons who are in crisis. Goals for training consist of, reducing emotions, intensity of thoughts, and behaviors related to the crisis; ensuring the safety of the individual and responders; providing de-escalation techniques for the individual in crisis and connecting them to the correct entities for treatment and support; promoting more effective interactions between local law enforcement, first responders and individuals in crisis; redirecting the individual from the criminal system to the appropriate mental health care system; and reducing stigma as it pertains to mental health.
This course is open to all DoD military and civilian personnel who serve in a prevention or response capacity where they may have to interact with individuals in crisis. Student populations include emergency medical personnel, fire department personnel, MCIO agents, Military Police officers, DA police officers, corrections officers, mental/behavioral health, and Family Advocacy personnel.
