Membership Solicitation for Fort Drum, NY Restoration Advisory Board (RAB)

The U.S. Department of Defense recognizes the importance of stakeholder participation for Installation Restoration Programs (IRPs). As such, Fort Drum is soliciting community interest for the establishment of a Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) to guide community participation in the restoration decision-making process.

The Fort Drum RAB will include community members who reflect the diverse interests of the local community. Selected RAB members will be expected to:

  • Serve a 1- to 2-year term.
     
  • Regularly attend Fort Drum RAB meetings.
     
  • Review and comment on plans and activities relating to environmental studies and restoration activities at Fort Drum, including:
     

o   Active restoration and long-term monitoring at petroleum-impacted sites under Fort Drum’s Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Order on Consent.

o   Long-term monitoring at a New York State Superfund Site under a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Record of Decision (ROD).

o   The upcoming remedial investigation/feasibility study for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

  • Provide input on activities to facilitate the restoration of sites with past contamination.
     
  • Serve as a voluntary liaison between the community and the Fort Drum RAB.
     
  • Be available to meet with community members and/or groups.

Once contact is made, you will be provided a RAB Community Interest Form which should be filled out completely and returned to the contact named above. A selection panel – made up of representatives from Fort Drum, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), the community, and the U.S. Army Environmental Command (USAEC) (as appropriate) – will review and approve the completed forms. To qualify for the RAB, interested parties must be local residents of the Fort Drum and Watertown, NY area. If selected, you will be notified of the specific meeting schedule; these RAB meetings will be open to the public.
