Road Conditions Definitions

GREEN

Road Conditions: Roads are clear and dry; visibility good.
Risk: Normal (follow all posted speed limits)
Government Vehicle Restrictions: None

AMBER

Road Conditions: Roads are wet, covered with slush, or fog with visibility reduced to under 300 feet.
Risk: Moderate (exercise caution, reduce speed 5-10 mph below posted speed limits)
Government Vehicle Restrictions: Off-post dispatches minimized and must be approved by unit Motor Officer.

RED

Road Conditions: Roads covered with snow, patches of ice, pooling water less than 6 inches, or dense fog with visibility reduced to under 100 feet.
Risk: High (exercise extra caution, recommend essential travel only, reduce speed 10-20 mph below posted speed limits)
Government Vehicle Restrictions: Mission essential vehicles only, dispatches approved by unit Commander during non-duty hours; Qualified, licensed assistant driver required for off-post dispatches and vehicles dispatched outside the main cantonment area.

BLACK

Road Conditions: Roads are covered with ice, water pooling greater than 6 inches.
Risk: Extreme (travel is not recommended unless life/safety issue)
Government Vehicle Restrictions: Emergency vehicles only (Fire, Law Enforcement, Medical, Public Works, Public Safety). Military vehicle movement approved by O-6 or above.
