The Public Affairs Office supports Fort Belvoir by communicating on behalf of the installation and its leadership - providing clear, accurate, timely information to internal & external audiences. We employ a variety of communication strategies- including internal news and information products, media engagement, and public outreach.

Media Relations

The Media Relations Branch is responsible directly to the Public Affairs Officer on all aspects of public information as applicable to civilian media coverage of incidents, accidents, events and activities of Fort Belvoir. Responds to all media queries regarding incidents, accidents, events and activities of Fort Belvoir. Serves as releasing officer for all news releases, to include written and verbal releases to media. Serves as liaison between media and the command.

Command Information

The Command Information Branch maintains operational responsibility for The Bugle, an internal Garrison newsletter, social media sites, and the website. Command Information provides assistance to the PAO with emphasis on maintaining effective relationships, organizing and presenting appropriate information on special events hosted by the installation and the internal command information program.

Community Engagement 

The Community Engagement Branch is responsible for all aspects of the command’s community engagement program to include developing understanding and support of the missions and functions of Fort Belvoir and being good neighbors by fostering relationships and understanding the needs of surrounding communities.

Social Media

PAO manages the primary social media pages for USAG Fort Belvoir in accordance with DoD Social Media Policy and the U.S. Army Social Media Handbook.

Due to reduced funding and a minimal staff, Fort Belvoir Public Affairs is, regrettably, no longer able to provide command head shots to our installation tenants and partners. We are only photographing our Garrison command team and directors.

Head shots are available at the Pentagon through VIOS https://vios.army.mil
Select US East on the landing page, then choose ‘new VIOS user, and in the drop-down, select ‘Pentagon,’ which is the closest V.I. Lab in the MDW. The database handles scheduling and allows you to track the progress of your image.
