For the first time since 2019, Fort Belvoir’s Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation held its signature event, the 24th annual Oktoberfest, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.

September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. This is an opportunity to raise awareness about the difficult topic of suicide. This year’s theme, “Connect to Protect – Support is Within Reach. We're in this Together,” encourages Soldiers to take care of Soldiers, and emphasizes the vital role we all play in suicide prevention.

Fort Belvoir’s Safety Office has two specialists to detect and remove mold in homes and offices. We spoke recently to Philip Goff, who takes great pride in helping people maintain a healthy environment.

Fort Belvoir Garrison directors met with Army leadership and installation partners for the annual Installation Priorities Board (IPB), July 22, at the Fort Belvoir Community Center to synchronize decision-making and promote stewardship of Garrison resources. 

“I’ve been working since I was 12,” Richard said during a PAO interview for this story. From delivering newspapers, and later as the circulation manager for the Courier Post newspaper in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, to cutting grass and helping dig graves at a cemetery as a ‘finishing man,’ Richard never seemed to bypass an opportunity. He recalled how his father always told him, “You want something? You’ve got to work for it.”
