The US Army Geospatial Center (AGC) Director’s Award for Excellence in Leadership is for demonstrated and exceptional leadership by an individual, either supervisory, team leadership, or project/program leadership which advanced the research, development, and/or operational accomplishments of the AGC and/or the US Army. This award is highly competitive and after committee selection is awarded to the recipient by the Agency Director, David Hibner.

Nearly 60 wounded warriors gathered on Fort Belvoir over the past week to train as part of a special team of athletes that will compete in the 2023 Invictus Games. The Invictus Games, which began in 2014, is an international multi-sport event for wounded and recovering active duty servicemembers and veterans. The games were founded by England’s Prince Harry as a way to inspire recovery and rehabilitation. This year’s games will be in Dusseldorf, Germany, from Sept. 9-17.

This month, USAG Fort Belvoir, the installation’s tenant agencies and individuals come together to raise awareness, offer support, and promote vital resources to combat the alarming statistics associated with suicide. With mental health remaining a key concern, Suicide Prevention Month takes center stage, uniting us all in a common mission: saving lives.

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Walker had been practicing medicine for years when she volunteered to be a U.S. Army surgeon in the American Civil War. She was originally rejected but eventually became the Army’s first female surgeon. She treated soldiers near the front lines, even getting captured as a prisoner of war. She was also the first – and so far only – woman to receive the Medal of Honor. Now a U.S. Army training post in Virginia has been renamed in her honor.
