Mitchell L. Jones
Mr. Jones became the Deputy to the Garrison Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden, in June 2021.
Mr. Jones is responsible for base operations and services that provide a readiness platform for theater-wide missions in support of Europe’s Army Service Component Command (ASCC), and U.S. Army Europe - Africa Command (USAREUR-AF). His workforce consists of 900 U.S. and Local National employees, committed to excellence in delivering quality services, with an annual budget of $117 million.
Prior to joining USAG Wiesbaden, he served as the Deputy to the Garrison Commander at USAG Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), the Army's Home of Innovation, with more than 21,000 Soldiers and Civilians at the Army’s oldest proving ground. Mr. Jones supervised over 1,100 Garrison employees and managed an annual average budget of $260 million.
Before his assignment to APG, he served as the Senior Regional Installation Support Team (RIST) Specialist for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Atlantic Region at Fort Sam Houston Texas.
Mr. Jones also served as Deputy to the Commander for USAG Ansbach with two subordinate garrisons, USAG Bamberg and USAG Schweinfurt, from December 2012 to January 2013 and again from November 2014 to August 2015, where he led a combined workforce of 1,120 U.S. and Local National employees in installation management and base operations for a supported population of 25,000 Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members.
Prior to his work at USAG Ansbach, he served as Chief of the Closure Task Force, responsible for leading a 43-person multi-functional team to develop and execute garrison closure plans and operations for the purpose of closing USAGs Bamberg and Schweinfurt and returning to the Host Nation.
Mr. Jones began his 34-year federal service career as a U.S. Army Soldier in October 1987. He served in various positions throughout Europe, southwest Asia and the U.S. He left active duty in June 1997, after 10 years of service. Concurrently, he began his career as a Department of Army (DA) Civilian employee in Grafenwoehr, Germany in June 1997, where he served in several key positions; Training Officer for the Directorate of Training (DOT), Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Battle Captain, and Anti-Terrorism, Plans and Operations Officer.
Mr. Jones holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Pacific University. He has been awarded multiple civilian service awards, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, Superior Civilian Service Award, and several Commander’s Civilian Service Awards.
