Garrison Commander Col. Danderson
Col. Troy Danderson assumed command of U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden on June 26, 2024.
Danderson was commissioned as a Military Intelligence officer from the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School at Fort Moore, Georgia, in 1999. He has served in assignments at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels across the Total Army Force on active duty, in the U.S. Army Reserve and the U.S. Army National Guard, as both an enlisted Soldier and commissioned officer.
Prior to assuming command of U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden, Danderson served with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower & Reserve Affairs’ Protection Policy Division. In 2018, he served as the Headquarters Department of the Army Executive Officer to the Deputy G2. In 2019, he took command of the Fort Meade, Maryland, based 742nd Military Intelligence Battalion, before serving in the Army Talent Management Task Force following his successful command in 2021.
Danderson’s initial active-duty assignment following his commissioning was in the Republic of Korea with the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade, where he served as a platoon leader and battalion personnel officer in the 527th Military Intelligence Battalion. Following his assignment in the 501st MI brigade, he served and deployed as the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment Intelligence officer in the 1st Brigade of the 1st Armored Division.
His numerous assignments include multiple duty positions in Korea including United States Forces Korea (USFK) Joint Intelligence Theater Ballistic Missile and Weapons of Mass Destruction Branch Chief, 2nd Infantry Division Analysis and Control Element Chief, 719th Military Intelligence Battalion Executive Officer, 501st Military Intelligence Brigade Operations Officer, and Executive Officer to the USFK Assistance Chief of Staff for Joint Intelligence. He has previous assignments in the Army National Guard 35th Infantry Division, Army Reserve 2600 Military Intelligence Group, and as a commander in the Utah Reserve Warrior Transition Unit.
He has deployed several times throughout his career in support of U.S. Army operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and as part of humanitarian operations support in response to Hurricane Katrina. He has earned numerous U.S. Army awards and decorations, including the combat action badge, parachutist badge, two Bronze Star Medals, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and six Meritorious Service Medals.
Danderson is a graduate of both the U.S. Air Force Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, Alabama, and the National War College in Washington, D.C. He holds master’s degrees in public administration, military operational arts and science, and national security strategy, as well as bachelor’s degrees in political science and English.
