It is illegal to dig, excavate, disturb the ground, or to collect archaeological artifacts on Fort McCoy. Violators are subject to criminal penalties involving fines or imprisonment or both and civil fines and forfeiture of vehicle and equipment used in connection with a violation. Reference Archaeological Resource Protection Act of 1979 (15 USC 470, and 36 CFR 261.9). Violators will be prosecuted.
