Visitor Information

Visitor passes are issued at building 35 to people who do not have valid military ID cards or Common Access Cards. Each adult occupant of a vehicle must have a valid photo ID and will be cleared through National Crime Information Center Interstate Identification Index (NCIC-III). Visitor Control Operations is open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding federal holidays. After regular operation hours, visitors can be issued a pass at the Main Gate or Gate 20. People and vehicles are subject to search upon entering and while on military property. Unauthorized entry is punishable by Paragraph 18 U.S. Code 1382. All motorists entering or operating a motor vehicle at Fort McCoy must be prepared to show proof of vehicle insurance, driver's license, and vehicle registration when requesting visitor passes or when asked to show such documentation by law-enforcement personnel.

The Fort McCoy Visitor Control Center is located on Highway 21 between Sparta and Tomah. Hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding federal holidays. After regular operation hours, visitors can be issued a pass at the Main Gate or Gate 20. Fort McCoy Gate 20

Commercial and tactical vehicles are required to use Gate 20. All tactical-vehicle operators must possess a valid military operator's permit (DA FORM 5984-E or equivalent) with the type of vehicle being operated annotated. The operator also must have a current and valid dispatch for the vehicle being operated.

Real ID Act of 2005

Fort McCoy fully enforces the provisions of the Real ID Act of 2005. Under provisions of this act, driver's license and ID cards from certain states and territories are not valid for unescorted access to Fort McCoy. Persons requesting unescorted access to Fort McCoy and who present a standard license or ID from one of those states will be required to present additional documentation to verify their identity prior to being allowed access to Fort McCoy.
