Welcome to Fort McCoy!

As the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve’s premiere Total Force Training Center, Fort McCoy is the only Army installation in the state of Wisconsin. Located close to the intersection of two major interstates (I-90 & I-94) in scenic west-central Wisconsin, it is midway between the Chicago/Milwaukee corridor and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Fort McCoy is one of the largest area employers with more than 1,400 civilian employees and a more-than $1.5 billion annual economic impact to the region. 

The installation features newer Exchange and Commissary facilities that are open to military, Veterans and others as authorized by the Garrison Commander. 

The neighboring family-friendly cities of Tomah and Sparta have well-rated school districts, low unemployment, affordable housing, and a low cost of living. Both cities offer vibrant downtown shopping and community events. The average cost for a three-bedroom, two-bath home is less than $200,000 (2022 Zillow).

At the edge of Wisconsin's scenic Driftless Area, the region boasts an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities such as local aquatic centers, rails-to-trails conservancy, biking, hiking, camping, ATV/snowmobile trails, boating, hunting, world-class fishing waterways and much more. The Mississippi River, Necedah National Wildlife Refuge, Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge, Wildcat Mountain State Park, Black River State Forest, and many other state and county parks are within a 45-minute drive.

The area’s quiet and safe quality-of-life opportunities draw families from around the country to relocate here. The local communities, including nearby La Crosse and Onalaska, offer various entertainment: semi-pro and college sports, theater, museums, world-renowned festivals, fine dining and nightlife. Fort McCoy is located near the Tomah VA Medical Center as well as numerous healthcare services systems, including the Mayo Clinic, and Gundersen Hospitals/Health Care Systems. The original, world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is only a 90-minute drive.
