USAG Italy Passport Office provides the following services:

• Passports Applications – Tourist, No-Fee, Official and Diplomatic (initial, renewal, lost/stolen, mutilated name changes and additional visa pages)

• Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) for newborns

• Social Security Card for newborns, replacement of lost Social Security Card and name changes

Servicemembers' dependent/s MUST apply for no-fee passports and visas for each family member. Servicemembers do not need to apply for no-fee passport or visas.

All DACs and their dependents need to apply for official passports and visas, NOT no-fee passports.

Anyone who arrives without the proper passport or visa must return to CONUS at their own expense and obtain them, as Italian Visas are not issued in Italy.

DO NOT TRAVEL WITHOUT A NO-FEE PASSPORT AND ITALIAN VISA!

No-Fee Passport

Before traveling, FAMILY MEMBERS who are U.S. citizens must apply for a No- Fee Passport at a military Passport Office. Non-U.S. citizens must apply for a country of origin passport. Docs must be original or certified. Bring:

  • Military ID Card & PCS Orders
  • ORB/ERB (newborn passports)
  • Soldier’s ID (back/front copy)
  • DS-11 or DS-82 (w/ passport)
  • Birth, Naturalization or Citizenship Certificate
  • Name Change Documents (Marriage/Divorce decrees)
  • 1 Recent Passport Photo
  • Current & Expired Passports
  • Both parents must be present or have a notarized DS-3053

Process can take EIGHT or more weeks.

Italian Missione (D) Visa

Once your U.S. No-Fee Passport or country of origin passport is ready, all dependents must apply for an Italian Missione Visa (Type D) at your military Passport Office (or embassy/consulate) before traveling to Italy. This visa will be affixed to the inside of your passport and used to apply for a Soggiorno upon arrival. Bring original or certified docs:

  • Military ID Card & PCS Orders
  • Soldier’s ID (back/front copy)
  • No-Fee Passport (must be signed before getting Visa)
  • Name Change Documents (Marriage/Divorce decrees)
  • 2 Recent Passport Photos
  • Statement of Understanding (only if Soldier is not present)

*Visas can take 2-4 more weeks.

Tourist Passport

Your No-Fee Passport is for Official Travel such as PCS, ETS, TDY or travel between Europe and the U.S.

Tourist Passports are required for leisure travel outside of your host nation. It can take up to 8 weeks to process a tourist passport in Europe. Apply for a Tourist Passport prior to leaving the U.S. to avoid delays in travel upon arrival!

WITHOUT A TOURIST PASSPORT, YOUR ABILITY TO TRAVEL OUTSIDE ITALIAN BORDERS ON ON LEAVE OR RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES THROUGH FOREIGN AIRPORTS WILL BE DIFFICULT.

NOTE: Use your No-Fee Passport & Visa to travel between your host nation & U.S. That’s what it’s for! Apply for tourist passports at any US Post Office or visit: www.travel.state.gov. If you need a picture, you can take it at CPF or setup an appointment with the Photo Lab at vios.army.mil.
