Command Sergeant Major Roderick W. Hendricks became the Fort Buchanan Garrison Command Sergeant Major, June 29, 2022.
Command Sgt. Maj. Hendricks is a native of Moore, South Carolina. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in June 1993 as an Engineer and attended both Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He served in the Army Reserves for seven years before becoming an Active Guard Reserve Soldier in September of 2000.
Command Sgt. Maj. Hendricks has served in various staff and leadership positions. His leadership assignments encompassed all enlisted positions from Team Leader through two First Sergeant assignments. His staff assignments include all training and operational assignments through the Division level. His previous assignment was as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Reserve Affairs Office with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) representing engineer enlisted matters for both the Army National Guard and Army Reserves.
Command Sgt. Maj. Hendricks’ previous assignments include the 391st Engineer Battalion, Greenville, South Carolina; 302nd Engineer Company, Camp Bullis, San Antonio, Texas; 471st Engineer Company, Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico; 420th Engineer Brigade, College Station, Texas; 7th Mission Support Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany; the 88th Readiness Division, Fort McCoy, Wisconsin and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, DC.
He is a graduate of Class 68 of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and of all previous levels of Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development (NCOPD). His military education includes, but is not limited to, Battle Staff, First Sergeants Course, and the Reserve Component National Security Course. Command Sgt. Maj. Hendricks is also a graduate of the University of North Carolina Strategic Studies Fellowship Program where he received a Strategic Studies Army Skill Identifier. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Master’s in Business Administration.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters; the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters; and the Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters. He has also earned the Army Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal. Additionally, he is an honored recipient of the Army Engineer Regimental bronze de Fleury award.
Command Sgt. Maj. Hendricks is married to his lovely wife for over 25 years. They have four children of whom they are very proud of. Their oldest son is a medic in the Army; and their youngest son is in the Air National Guard as an F16 Crew Chief, and a student in a local college. Their daughters are both attending college to become nurses.
