The Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony for an autism-friendly sensory room named in honor of Gavin Blair, February 15, 2024. The sensory room offers a calming space with sensory-friendly elements to alleviate patients' fears and anxieties. By providing a safe and welcoming environment, the goal is to enhance the healthcare experience for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
Frequent moves and different state educational requirements can make attending traditional schools challenging for military students. About 200 students on Fort Belvoir have taken a different path: homeschooling. This initiative is led by Fort Belvoir Home Educators (FBHE), a non-profit organization dedicated to home education.
Vice Admiral Michell Skubic retired after 35 years of service to the Navy and handed off directorship of Defense Logistics Agency to Army Lt. Gen. Mark Simerly during a change of responsibility and retirement ceremony Feb. 2 at the agency’s Fort Belvoir, Virginia, headquarters.
In a bid to foster a sense of community and support for foreign-born spouses, Army Community Services held its latest program initiative: the International Coffee Hour on Jan. 22. This event serves as a multicultural support group, inviting foreign spouses to gather, network, receive support, and connect with others over a delightful spread of coffee and light refreshments.
By participating as a Family Child Care (FCC) provider, Fort Belvoir spouses have the ability to not only work from home but also set their own work schedule. FCC provides quality home-based care for children 4 weeks to 12 years old to those who are willing to run a childcare facility in their on-post residence.
