U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Belvoir marked a change in leadership Aug. 13 as Col. David J. Stewart relinquished command to Col. Samuel R. Allen during a ceremony highlighting the installation’s growing role in defense readiness and quality-of-life initiatives for military families. Calling Fort Belvoir his top choice for brigade-level command, Col. Allen described the post as “unlike any other Army installation in the world.”
Two members of the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and Fort Belvoir boxing team stepped into the ring for their first USA Boxing-sanctioned matches during the June “Best of the Best” tournament. The fighters, representing a joint force of active-duty military personnel and Department of the Army civilians—demonstrated the physical readiness and mental resiliency required of the modern warfighter.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Killian, and Command Sgt. Major Ernie Urzua accepted control of Fort Belvior Headquarters Battalion during the Assumption of Command & Responsibility at Wood Theater, July 10. Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll, in attendance, congratulated Killian, whom he's known since they deployed to Iraq together, underscoring the life-long friendships the military provides.

Chef Jeffrey Phillips, retired Army Major Gen. and Chef Instructor with The Colonel's Kitchen, goes over the basics of preparation and cooking with attendees from Fort Belvoir's Soldier Recovery Unit, June 17 at USO's Warrior and Family Center. The collaboration between SRU and Army Community Services helps transition them toward holistic recovery and successful reintegration of service members.
