Course Description: 

The Special Reaction Team (SRT) Course is designed to provide DoD Law Enforcement Service Members and Civilians a tactical response capability to resolve critical situations that otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional Military Police Law Enforcement.

The SRT Course focuses on close combat marksmanship, breaching methods, vehicle interdictions, room entry, and building clearing tactics techniques and procedures (TTP).

Instructed in both classroom and decisive action training environment the SRT Course uses extensive live fire and force on force practical exercises to reinforce training and instill critical thinking in the employment SRT TTP’s.

Upon successful completion of the SRT Course the student will be trained to evaluate and employ the ideal tactical response to resolve high-risk incidents (such as active threats, barricaded subjects, high-risk warrants, hostage situations, and law enforcement searches and raids) requiring increased capabilities and specialized tactics.

Objective:

Units requiring Special Reaction Team training at their location may request a Mobile Training Team (MTT). This request should be routed through the MACOM to Headquarters, Department of the Army, ATTN: G3 DAMO-ODO Provost Marshal Desk, 400 Army Pentagon, Washington, DC 20310. Every attempt to fill vacant seats should be made prior to requesting an MTT. Units requesting to host an MTT must make available all training assets required (Ranges, Shoot Houses, CACTIF/MOUT, Explosive Breaching facilities) to insure successful completion of all TTP’s required for graduation.

    NOTE: Students must meet all prerequisites in order to attend this course. In the case a unit wants a student to attend this course they need to submit a waiver to the prerequisites.

    COURSE PREREQUISITE ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER INFORMATION:
  • The Unit Pre-Execution Checklist (formally known as Commanders Screening Checklist) must be filled out completely and signed by the first O-5 in the Chain of Command. The Checklist certifies that the individual has been screened and meets all requirements to attend the SRT course. The Checklist must be turned in to SRT staff personnel at in-processing on Day 1 of the course. Students who do not report to the course with a completed checklist will be returned to their parent unit at unit expenses. 
  • The checklist serves as proof of firearms qualification scores and dates, Army Combat Fitness Test scores and dates, verification of security clearance (JPAS), annual PHA with no temporary or permanent profile and no adverse action. The checklist and orders are the only documents required for in-processing. If a waiver was approved, it must be presented upon in-processing.

    WAIVERS:
  • For students attending this course who requires a waiver for any of the prerequisites listed on ATRRS, the unit must submit the waiver to the Director of Training and Education (DOT&E), United States Army Military Police School (USAMPS), Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473-8929 a minimumof 60 days from the start of the course. Students with approved waivers must report with a copy of the waiver for in-processing.

    CIVILIAN MEDICAL CLEARANCE
  • Civilian Students attending the SRT Course need to be cleared for strenuous physical activity by a physician.

  • NOTE: This course requires a high degree of physical fitness. Participants have to run, jump, wear protective clothing (body armor, M50 Joint Services General Purpose Mask (JSGPM) , etc.) and will come in contact with other students or instructors during several phases of training.​​​​​​​
    Weapons qualifications
    • All students will be qualified IAW their service standards. For all ARMY students, it will be the USALE day pistol and rifle qualification (IAW ST 19-LEWTAQ)

Graduation Dates:
Graduation will be at the completion of training on Friday afternoon of week two. Generally around 1500 hrs. We highly recommend not making return flight arrangements on the day of graduation. It is a 2.5 hour drive to St. Louis from Fort Leonard Wood.

Transportation Issues:
Commands are highly encouraged to authorize a rental vehicle. The distance from billeting to the training area is such that walking is not an option. Students may be billeted off post and training areas are located at remote sites. Students must coordinate with their current command for rental vehicle approval and orders must state "RENTAL CAR IS AUTHORIZED". If a POV is authorized, ensure orders state: "IN AND AROUND MILEAGE IS AUTHORIZED". In and around travel of no more than 20 miles per day should be authorized if billeted on post, 30 miles per day if billeted off post. Taxis are available on the installation.

If driving, the most direct route is by Interstate 44 between Saint Louis and Springfield, MO. Fort Leonard Wood is located near the city of Saint Robert, MO approximately 140 mile west of St. Louis and 90 miles east of Springfield. Turn south off I-44 onto I-44 business spur at exit 161, the Fort Leonard Wood main gate is approximately 2.5 miles.

If traveling by air to St. Louis International Airport (STL); commercial bus lines are available for transportation to Fort Leonard Wood. Rental car from St. Louis: Exit St. Louis Airport to Highway (Hwy) 70 West. Continue on hwy 70 to exit 270 South (Memphis). Travel 270 South to I-44 exit west. Continue on I-44 West (approximately 125 miles), exit at 161 to Fort Leonard Wood.

Commercial taxis are available on a 24-hour basis for transportation on post.

Billeting and Per Diem:

All TDY students will be housed on post if vacancies exist by calling 573-586-4800, IHG Lodging Office, Candlewood Suites, 4990 Nebraska Ave, Bldg. 2020, or 1-800-677-8356 for room assignment in the IGH lodging complex. Billeting can be made through IHG at: https://www.ihg.com/armyhotels/hotels/us/en/reservation. Lodging can also be made in DTS. Coordinate Per Diem issues with your unit prior to course attendance.

Where to Report:

In-processing for the Special Reaction Team training course will take place at, 0615 on Range 14, Bldg. #5540, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 65473. All students missing 2 hours of training will be returned to their units at their expense. Upon completion of in-processing on Monday morning, students will receive further guidance by the course cadre.
