Clay Kaserne Traffic Planning & Construction

Starting May 18, the State of Hesse will begin major roadwork on the B455 between Mainz-Kastel/A671 and Wiesbaden-Fort Biehler/Clay Kaserne junctions.

Here’s what you need to know based off Hessen Mobil’s latest updates:

Timeline: Preparatory work starts May 18 through to mid-July 2026, with full road renewal continuing until October 2026.

Traffic Flow: B455 will stay open in both directions, but lanes will be narrowed in phased sections down the highway. Expect delays and increased congestion.

Ramp Closures: From May 20 to June 3, the exit and entrance ramps at Wiesbaden-Fort Biehler interchange will be closed. This means if you are coming from Wiesbaden to Clay Kaserne via the B455, the ramp onto Luftbrueckenstrasse will be closed.

During this time, you can use the U16 detour via the Erbenheim-Nord exit to access Clay Kaserne from Wiesbaden.

You can also take the B455 towards Mainz Kastel and utilize the A671 junction to loop back and return up the B455 towards Clay Kaserne, via the Wi-Erbenheim-Sud/Domäne Mechtildshausen exit.

Additionally, the ramp from Clay Kaserne/ Luftbrueckenstrasse to the B455 in the direction of Mainz-Kastel will also be closed and drivers should follow the U15 detour.

Luftbrueckenstrasse is the main access road leading towards the Clay Kaserne Main Gate and Visitor Center. 

Major construction begins in ~June 2026 and will significantly alter traffic patterns for over two years. The project will completely repave Luftbrueckenstrasse and widen access to 2 lanes in, 2 lanes out.

• Throughout this project, the Garrison will update the community about construction phasing progress and provide education about alternate commuting routes throughout the greater-Wiesbaden area. 
• "Know Your Commute, Know Your Route." -- Start familiarizing yourself now with potential alternate routes to and from the installation. The more you prepare, the less impact construction congestion will have on your daily commute.
• To help mitigate traffic congestion, the Garrison will also establish additional inbound/outbound gates on Clay Kaserne. As these gates are established and opened, further updates to the community will follow. 
• Ensure you are tapped in to the My Army Post App on your mobile device. The Garrison will utilize push notifications to inform the community through this app -- providing you relevant project updates and awareness about any traffic delays.
• The City of Wiesbaden will also be conducting road work on the B455 highway this summer, impacting daily commute routes onto Clay Kaserne. Be prepared for short-term closures of B455 on/off ramps and rerouting detours.

On Clay Kaserne, construction work will take place in the King Ave. area over four phases of work, Nov. 24, 2025 - August 2026.

Be prepared for potential single-lane closures throughout the area and use caution while navigating these work zones.

• Phase 3: King Ave in front of Bldg. 1202; March 30 – June 19, 2026
• Phase 4: Wurgel Street Bldg. 1202 + 1217; June 22 – July 10, 2026

Lindsey Blvd utility work and partial lane closure

A partial road closure will take place on Lindsey Blvd. near the intersection that leads to the Postal Center. Work will start Monday, Feb. 9 and is expected to last 3-4 weeks.

Be prepared for single-lane traffic in the area and use caution while navigating this work zone.

As of Dec. 1st, 2025 -- Aumannstrasse has now reopened. The Clay Kaserne South Gate is now closed until further notice.
