LUFTBRUECKENSTRASSE / B455 UPDATES

Major construction on Luftbrueckenstrasse, the main road leading towards the Clay Kaserne Main Gate, will begin around Aug. 10, 2026.

REMINDER: This construction project is expected to significantly alter traffic patterns for the next two years. The project will completely repave Luftbrueckenstrasse and widen access to two lanes in, two lanes out.

 WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Prior to Aug. 10, commuters will see ground crews preposition equipment and signage along Luftbrueckenstrasse.
  • Starting around Aug. 10, a portion of the far-right inbound lane on Luftbrueckenstrasse, between the B455 intersection and farm access intersection, will temporarily close as construction begins.

 The Garrison will update the community on major impacts throughout the project via Facebook, the My Army Post App, and here on the official Traffic Planning webpage:

 Please drive safely and mind the additional signage and instruction of the ground crew.

 Additionally, according to the State of Hesse, beginning Aug. 17, the ramp from B455, from Mainz-Kastel to Clay/Erbenheim South will be closed until Oct. 25. This is related to construction on the B455.

To alleviate traffic please use alternate ingress and egress routes on North Clay:

  •  The Rennbahnstrasse gate is open every day 5 a.m. 11 p.m. for inbound traffic only
  •  The Mittelpfad gate is open Monday-Friday 3:30-6 p.m. for outbound traffic only

#Reminder - Always carry two forms of ID and visitor access is only processed at either the Clay Kaserne Visitor Center or Hainerberg Main Gate.

State of Hesse B455 Renewal | May 18 - Oct. 2026 (updated July 2026)

Starting May 18, the State of Hesse will begin major roadwork on the B455 between Mainz-Kastel/A671 and Wiesbaden-Fort Biehler/Clay Kaserne junctions.

Here’s what you need to know based off Hessen Mobil’s latest updates:

Repair works on federal highway B 455 between the A671 junction MZ-Kastel and the B455 junction WI-Fort Biehler.

Timeline: Preparations underway since May; actual works begin Thursday, 9 July 2026, and are expected to last into the autumn (traffic restrictions until early October 2026).

Traffic Flow: B455 will stay open in both directions, but lanes will be narrowed in phased sections down the highway. Expect delays and increased congestion.

Closures

  • Two ramps at the MZ-Kastel junction (from A671, coming from Hochheim) closed from 7 July, 6 a.m. — diversions signposted via A66 (Wiesbaden-Mainzer Straße) and A671 (Hochheim).
  • Fort Biehler bus stop (towards Wiesbaden) closed from 9 July.
  • Southern exit of the Fort Biehler settlement (towards MZ-Kastel) closed — but settlement access remains available via the Fort Biehler junction.

Luftbrueckenstrasse Renewal | June 2026 - July 2028 (updated August 2026)

Luftbrueckenstrasse is the main access road leading towards the Clay Kaserne Main Gate and Visitor Center.

Major construction begins on 10 August 2026 and will significantly alter traffic patterns for over two years. The project will completely repave Luftbrueckenstrasse and widen access to 2 lanes in, 2 lanes out.

  • Throughout this project, the Garrison will update the community about construction phasing progress and provide education about alternate commuting routes throughout the greater-Wiesbaden area.
  • "Know Your Commute, Know Your Route." -- Start familiarizing yourself now with potential alternate routes to and from the installation. The more you prepare, the less impact construction congestion will have on your daily commute.
  • To help mitigate traffic congestion, the Garrison will also establish additional inbound/outbound gates on Clay Kaserne. As these gates are established and opened, further updates to the community will follow.
  • Ensure you are tapped in to the My Army Post App on your mobile device. The Garrison will utilize push notifications to inform the community through this app -- providing you relevant project updates and awareness about any traffic delays.
  • The City of Wiesbaden will also be conducting road work on the B455 highway this summer, impacting daily commute routes onto Clay Kaserne. Be prepared for short-term closures of B455 on/off ramps and rerouting detours.

King Ave. Paving Work | Nov. 2025 - Aug. 2026

On Clay Kaserne, construction work will take place in the King Ave. area over four phases of work, Nov. 24, 2025 - August 2026.

Be prepared for potential single-lane closures throughout the area and use caution while navigating these work zones.

  • Phase 1: Complete
  • Phase 2: Complete
  • Phase 3: King Ave in front of Bldg. 1202; March 30 – June 19, 2026
  • Phase 4: Wurgel Street Bldg. 1202 + 1217; June 22 – July 10, 2026

Lindsey Blvd Utility Work | Feb. until complete

Lindsey Blvd utility work and partial lane closure

A partial road closure will take place on Lindsey Blvd. near the intersection that leads to the Postal Center. Work will start Monday, Feb. 9 and is expected to last 3-4 weeks.

Be prepared for single-lane traffic in the area and use caution while navigating this work zone.

Aummanstrasse Closure Aug. 17 - 24, 2026

Aumannstrasse will be closed Aug. 17 - 24 due to repaving work. Access to the Child Development Center will not be affected. Please follow detour signs and plan your commute accordingly.

Traffic Changes at Hainerberg Aug. 4, 2026

Starting Aug. 4, Virginiastrasse will see traffic changes to reduce congestion around the school area.

 What’s coming:

  • School buses will use a new priority road from the Wiesbaden Middle School parking lot directly to Main ACP, reducing traffic at the Exit-only gate.
  • New priority routes for faster bus departures and vehicle movement from Texasstrasse to Mississippistrasse.
