History of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team
The 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) of the 3rd Infantry Division traces its history back to World War I, where it fought in major campaigns like the Battle of the Marne. It was later reconstituted in 1963 and activated in Germany before being inactivated in 1994. The brigade later rejoined the division at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and has since deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom, where it participated in "thunder runs" into Baghdad, and later supported Operation New Dawn. The brigade's nickname is the "Spartan Brigade".
