Christopher R. Norrie
Major General Christopher R. Norrie assumed command of the 3rd Infantry Division on June 1, 2023. Prior to his arrival at Fort Stewart he served as Director, People First Task Force, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, United States Army, Arlington, Virginia.
Major General Norrie is a distinguished military graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and holds master’s degrees in business administration from Embry-Riddle University and in national security strategy from the National War College.
His other command assignments include: C Company, later Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood (known as Fort Cavazos since 2023), Texas and Operation Joint Forge, Bosnia and Herzegovina; 6th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado and Operation Atlantic Resolve, Poland; 25th Commander of Operations Group, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California; Commanding General for the 7th Army Training Command, Grafenwoehr, Germany.
Major General Norrie’s other assignments include Deputy Commanding General for Maneuver, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; Director of the Chief of Staff of the Army's Coordination Group, Washington D.C.; Division G3 (Operations), 1st Armored Division; Secretary of the General Staff, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commanding General (Maneuver), 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; and Tank and Scout Platoon Leader, 4th Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley.
His military education includes the U.S. Army Armor Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, and the Command and General Staff College.
Major General Norrie’s operational deployments and combat tours include Operation Joint Forge - Bosnia/Herzegovina, Operation Iraqi Freedom - Iraq, Operation Spartan Shield - Middle East, and Operation Atlantic Resolve - Poland.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Meritorious Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
