  1. Fort Stewart -Hunter Army Airfield will conducted a power outage to test our electrical grid and back-up power capabilities on regular interval and during Garrison exercises.
  2. Power has been restored across the installation. It may take time for all systems to be back on line.

Black Start Exercise.jpgFort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield is launching a series of monthly energy resilience exercises in preparation for the large-scale "Black Start" event scheduled for 2026. To enhance readiness, the installation will conduct these exercises every third Thursday of the month, leading up to the full-scale event. On April 24, Circuit 1 will be temporarily impacted for no more than 90 minutes at both locations. Affected areas include:
- Fort Stewart Circuit 1: Housing areas (Liberty Woods, North Bryan Village, South Bryan Village, Isenhower Terrace, Marne Woods, Marne Point), two Child Development Centers (Buildings 5500 and 7100), two Youth Centers (Buildings 5655 and 7338), four DoDEA schools (Buildings 5601, 5604, 5605, and 7560), and Building 5653 (NEC, IEWP).
- Hunter Army Airfield Circuit 1: Tuttle Army Health Clinic, Commissary, Main Exchange, Montgomery Gate, Gannan Heights housing area, Express (Gas Station), Building 935 (NEC, IEWP), IHG, and Hunter Club.
These proactive measures will help ensure the installations remain operationally resilient in the face of extended power outages. Residents and personnel in affected areas are encouraged to plan accordingly, charge essential devices, and prepare for minor disruptions.

Keep freezers and refrigerators closed.
Keep all electronics fully charged. Have extra batteries ready for flashlights and radios. Avoid candles that can cause house fires.
Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.

Soldiers must ensure their chain of command is aware of Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Family members.

Have alternate plans for refrigerating medications.

Emergency Kits are a way for individuals and Families to sustain themselves when essential services such as power and water are interrupted.

Garage doors can be manually opened during a power outage.

  • Ensure the door is not locked and there is nothing preventing it opening
  • Unplug the power source to the garage door
  • Pull the red emergency cable release cable to open and close the garage door

Be prepared for possible delays and use caution when driving.

If the power goes out at a stoplight, then treat the intersection as a four-way stop and everyone should come to a complete stop before proceeding. Right-of-way: if intersections have no signage or signals, drivers should yield to traffic on their right and to cars already crossing the intersection.
