The Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC) is located near the Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU). The SFAC supports Soldiers assigned to the SRU, to those who are in the Mecial Evaluation Board (MEB)/Physical Evaluation Board (PEB) process and to their Family Members.

As the novel COVID-19 remains ever-changing, the health and well-being of you and our staff has remained our top priority.  We are currently open with limited services.  Current Rules of Engagement for the Soldier and Family Assistance Center facility is:

  • Single point of entry with required sign-in and sign-out
  • Mandatory masks for employees and customers
  • Hand sanitizer station - all entering the building must use
  • Verbal health screening continues
  • Enforced social distancing of six-feet
  • The Lobby is limited to eight customers at a time
  • Computer lab is lmited to one customer at a time with a 30 minute limit

Located within the Soldier and Family Assistance Center is Information and Referral, Army Recovery Care Coordination Directorate (ARCCD), Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP), Chaplain, and Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC). These programs are here to serve all military Service Members of all military forces and Family Members (not only active duty, but active Reservist and active National Guard).

The SFAC has a lobby available to our military Service Members and Family Members to relax between appointments.  Here is what is available for your use (some services may be limited at this time due to COVID-19):

*Television area
*Fire place to relax at during winter months
*Outdoor patio to enjoy fresh air during good weather

Provides counseling and resources. The chaplain has a weekly Bible Study and lunch on Wednesday's from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in room 140.  Please call ahead of time to verify the class is taking place.

Financial Services
The SFAC is able to provide you an accredited financial counselor who also served in the Armed Forces as legal and in finance for 21 years, and as a civilian as a Director of DMPO and a Financial Counselor for a total of 15 years with over half of that time at the SFAC working with Service Members going through the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) process.

Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP)
Provides Soldiers Recovering/Transitioning assistance with Capston, General Questions, In/Outprocessing and more.  Appointments are available and encouraged by calling (785) 239-2278 (SFAC) or (785) 239-8368 (SFL-TAP Main Office, 212 Custer Avenue).
Walk-In hours are:
   Monday, Wednesday and Friday:  8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
   Tuesday and Thursday:  1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
