Paul Hossenlopp serves as the deputy garrison commander for U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz since November 2022. He most recently served as the deputy garrison manager Benelux – Brussels where he was responsible for the management and execution of a variety of installation management activities supporting the U.S. and NATO.
He retired from the Army in September 2017 following a 30-year career as a field artillery officer. His military assignments included overseas tours in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, Poland, and two combat tours in Iraq. He served in numerous stateside tours in Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Washington, Washington D.C. and Kansas.
His key assignments included key command and staff positions at the company level and battalion command of 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery Regiment. Following battalion command, he served as the deputy commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in the Al Rasheed District of southwest Baghdad. In the summer of 2009, he attended the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. From June 2010 to May 2011, he commanded the Fort Hood Warrior Transition Brigade and from June 2011 to July 2013, he commanded the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Hossenlopp served in several leadership positions within NATO in Turkey and Poland from August 2013 to June 2015. In July 2015, he assumed the role as chief of staff for the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence at Fort Sill.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the Army Commendation Medal with five oak leaf clusters.
Hossenlopp has a Bachelor of Science in physical education and health from Xavier University in Cincinnati, a Master of Science Degree (Administration) from Central Michigan University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
