Final Salute for 101 year-old Buffalo Soldier - Jan. 31, 2020

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md,; Fort George G. Meade Garrison Commander, Col. Erich Spragg and Command Sergeant Major Michael Behnkendorf, led members of the Fort Meade Funeral Honors Team in a final salute ceremony, honoring Charles Hurbert Lancaster. The 101-year-old Lancaster, enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served as a 1st Lieutenant Company Commander in the 372st Infantry Division. He earned a Purple Heart and was awarded a Bronze Medal during his service. The event is scheduled for Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Mount Ephraim Baptist Church.

Meade will hold its All Services Birthday Commemoration Run, on the U.S. Army’s 244th birthday June 14.  Traditionally, the run emphasizes the importance of espirit-de-corps and camaraderie among the joint forces on post. In the past, the run was known as the Army Birthday Run, however it was changed to All Services Birthday Commemoration Run to make it a joint birthday celebration.
