All who enter Fort Jackson have seen the construction efforts near access control gates as new active and passive barriers are installed. The additional barriers means stronger physical security for the installation and all who work and live on post.

As 2021 gives way to 2022, many people will reflect on their lives last year and make resolutions for the New Year. Something that hasn’t changed from last year to next is the critically low shortages of whole blood and blood products.

Soldiers, civilians, retirees and Family members lined Strom Thurmond Boulevard and Marion Avenue as she passed. Some attended with their own pets and service animals to honor the work Aura and fellow working dogs provide to safeguard the nation and its people. Many saluting, holding their hands over their hearts and waving small flags to show their final respects to the four-legged hero.

As Victory Block Leave ends and the New Year begins, many Fort Jackson drill sergeants and cadre return to continue training the future of the Army. For members of 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry Regiment, they return to a cycle break as their last Basic Combat Training cycle graduated prior to VBL.
