Lieutenant Colonel Gichert was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Armor from the United States Military Academy in 2003. Following graduation, Lieutenant Colonel Gichert volunteered for service in the 39th Arkansas Infantry Brigade where he served as a Brigade Scout Platoon Leader in Baghdad. Upon returning, he was assigned to 3rd BDE 1st Cavalry Division as a company and

headquarters company Executive Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Gichert then volunteered as a MiTT Team Leader and was deployed to Mosul, Iraq with the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division of the Iraqi Army. Upon redeployment he attended the Armor Captains Career Course and was assigned to the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment where he served as an Assistant Regimental S3, H Company Commander, and as the HHT 2/11 Commander. He was then assigned as the Commander of Warrior Transition Unit Bravo at Naval Medical Center San Diego.

Upon Completion of the Art of War Master’s Program at the Command and General Staff College, Lieutenant Colonel Gichert returned to the 1st Cavalry Division and deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as a G35 Planner. After returning from Afghanistan, he was assigned as the Operations Officer for 2-7 Cavalry and subsequently the 3rd Brigade Executive Officer for deployment to OPERATION SPARTAN SHIELD. Lieutenant Colonel Gichert was then assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff as a Special Assistant to the Director of the Army Staff.

Lieutenant Colonel Gichert’s awards include the Bronze Star (with V device and 3 bronze oak leaf clusters), the Meritorious Service Medal (4 bronze oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with V device and 3 bronze oak leaf clusters), and the Army Achievement Medal. He has also been awarded the Combat Action Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
