Detroit Arsenal (DTA), Army Education Center (AEC) enhances mission readiness under the authority granted to Army Continuing Education Division (ACED), in alignment with 10 U.S. Code § 2007. Our primary focus is to provide essential opportunities for Voluntary Education and Army Personnel Testing (APT), fostering both professional and personal growth for Service Members (SM), their dependents, and Department of the Army (DA) Civilians.

Army Personnel Testing (APT)

  • Testing is available by appointment only on weekdays from 0700 to 1530. To schedule a testing appointment, please email USARMY.DETROIT.ID-SUSTAINMENT.MBX.ACES@ARMY.MIL
  • SMs E-6 and below must present a DA4187 signed by their CoC for testing. Each test has a specific DA4187 template.
  • SMs E-7 and above also require a DA4187 filled out, but it only needs to be signed by the SM.
  • All Troop Program Unit (TPU) SMs must bring a DA1380 and provide an email address for a Point of Contact (POC) to confirm they are on pay status for testing. It is mandatory by military regulation that SMs be in pay status for testing at DTA AEC.

PCS/ETS Guidance

  • Soldiers in the immediate area checking in to TACOM must bring their DA5123-1 to the DTA AEC for signature. Out-processing Soldiers also require a face-to-face checkout with a DA137-1 provided by TACOM S-1.
  • For Soldiers checking in or out due to PCS, ETS, or retirement, outside to immediate DTA area please consult your respective S-1 for guidance.

Important Notice: If we are out of the office for more than a day or two and you need to check in/out, or if you require assistance with AIED, TA, or CA—including retirement ADSO letters or any issues related to AIED—please contact the Rock Island (RI) AEC.

Once the RI AEC has processed your check-in or check-out, you can return here. If we are still unavailable, another member of the Department of Business Management (DBM), Personnel Management Division (PMD), will sign your DA5123-1 or DA137-1.

 

Transition Assistance Program (TAP)

  • TAP is a Commander’s Program and the responsibility of Soldiers. It offers information and training to prepare transitioning Soldiers, DA Civilians, retirees, Soldiers’ family members, and caregivers for their next steps, whether that involves further education, job searching in the public or private sectors, or starting a business.
  • TAP is administered at the DTA virtually through the Army’s 24/5 Virtual Center because Soldiers are located more than 50 miles from a TAP center.
  • All Soldiers with at least 180 continuous days of active duty, including National Guard and Reserve in Title 10 status, are eligible for TAP. Engaging with TAP early and frequently has been shown to increase post-transition success rates. Career Skills Program (CSP)

  • To participate in a Career Skills Program (CSP), you must meet specific eligibility criteria outlined at the following URL. Participation is a privilege granted by your command and is limited to one program during your transition period.
  • CSP is part of the Transition Soldier Life Cycle model, encouraging Soldiers to take advantage of training and development opportunities throughout their military careers. CSPs allow Soldiers to engage in career and employment skills training during the last 180 days of military service, enhancing their employment prospects upon separation.
