The Fort Jackson community came together June 2 to help save lives by donating units of whole blood at the post’s Solomon Center. Though the blood drive was typical, it looked anything but with donor beds, chairs and screening stations spaced well over six feet apart.

As spring gives way to summer, South Carolina and Fort Jackson begins living up to the states moniker of “Famously Hot.” This means shorts, pool time, air conditioning and hurricane season.

During the 2019 novel coronavirus pandemic, Fort Jackson’s Army Community Service staff have been available to provide assistance to Soldiers and their Families in their time of need. While most consider the services of the office for active-duty personnel only, Reserve and National Guard members under certain circumstances can find assistance as well.

Fort Jackson is famed for being a location where Soldiers and civilians hone leadership skills; and one on-post teacher was recognized for demonstrating her exceptional skills.

Fort Jackson is the first military base to deploy the Thermal Imaging Fever System - a small, compact system to be found at the entrance to most battalion headquarters buildings to help win the battle against the spread of the COVID-19 virus through early detection.

While not all gyms across the installation have reopened, those using the gym will see changes such as reduced hours, restricted use of showers, basketball courts and saunas, and no communal water coolers.

If a Soldier or their Family needs financial help Army Emergency Relief is there to help, but turning to GoFundMe pages or soliciting donations could land them in hot water, Fort Jackson legal officials said.
