
Housing Eligibility Process
- Unaccompanied and accompanied Soldiers will learn about official Housing policies at this brief. Spouses are welcome to attend.
- Each Soldier meets with the Housing Rep to determine housing eligibility based on rank, housing availability, and dependents. The off-post Housing office will then provide details of your specific housing quarters.
Housing is located on the second floor of bldg 725, next to the PX
- Government-Leased:
- If Government housing is available, you'll be assigned to a government-leased home as per the INCOM-E Mandatory Housing Assignment Policy.
- Your family can set up a “viewing” of your new home with a Housing Inspector prior to been assigned to the unit.
- Private Rental Housing:
- If government housing isn’t available, your family will rent private housing after attending a Private Rental Briefing.
- Housing office will brief eligible Soldiers & families on the private rental process prior to the lease signing.

Family Housing - Government Leased
Residing in Government Leased Quarters (GLQ) in Italy is a unique experience.
The Quarters are located off-post and in the neighborhoods of the USAG Italy footprint but are still controlled by the U. S. Government.
Living in another culture can be a learning curve, and you must abide by a range of Italian laws, USAG Italy Army Family Housing (AFH) regulations, obligations, and shared responsibilities. Knowing some key regulations and being a Good Neighbor will make your transition easier and more comfortable for you and your neighbours.
You will find important information and guidelines to help you adapt to your assigned Government Leased Quarters (GLQ) on the “Procedures & Information Web Page”.

Government Quarters
Because of the Lease stipulations between the U. S. Government and the Property Owner, certain maintenance items can only be corrected by the Property Owner. Always contact the AFH Maintenance Team; do not engage the Property Owner. The Maintenance Team will assess a work order to determine who needs to resolve the repairs.
Private Rental Housing
If Government housing is not available, and not projected for 60 days service members may be issued a Certificate of Non-Availability (CNA) by the On-Post Housing Office. A CNA is required for Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) eligibility and authorization to obtain private rental housing.
If service members move off-post without a Certificate of Non-Availability, Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) will not be authorized, and Soldiers will only receive their Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). Personnel who make commitments for economy housing (after receipt of PCS orders) without first reporting to the gaining Housing Office, will not be authorized OHA unless Government controlled housing was not available within 60 days of their arrival.
