Things to Get Started Right Away & Keep in Mind
- Passports & Visas: All dependents must obtain an official passport and Visa prior to arriving at Vicenza.
- Hotel Reservations: On-base lodging is in short supply. Forms and Documentation
To prepare for your arrival and ensure eligibility for housing options, you will need to complete various forms and gather the required documents. Please note that only digital copies or scanned versions are acceptable; photographs will not be accepted.
Here is a list of what you will need:
1. PCS Orders (and Amendments if applicable): Provide copies of your PCS orders that clearly state your assignment to USAG Italy.
2. Dependent Documents (if applicable): Provide copies of birth certificates, marriage certificates, and other documents for any dependents. Ensure these documents are translated into English if they are in another language.
3. Passport and Visas:
- Ensure you have a valid U.S. passport. Your dependents must also have valid passports.
- Obtain an Italian visa (if required). Check with your unit and the Italian Consulate for specific visa requirements for military personnel and dependents.
4. DA Form 31 (Leave Form): A signed DA Form 31 (Request and Authority for Leave) is necessary for processing the leave you may be taking in conjunction with your PCS move.
5. Housing Application (DD Form 1746): Complete and submit DD Form 1746 (Application for Assignment to Housing). This form is required whether you seek on-post or off-post housing.
6. POA (Power of Attorney): If a family member is handling housing matters on your behalf, provide a valid Special Power of Attorney (POA).
- Temporary Lodging Reservations: Make reservations at the Ederle Inn or other authorized temporary lodging facilities in advance of your arrival.
Upon Arrival at Vicenza
1. Attend the Housing Briefing:
- A mandatory Housing Briefing must be attended at the Housing Office. You will receive information about housing availability, procedures, and local rental markets
- TLA can only be approved by the Housing Office.
- TLA claims are processed every fifteen days.
- Unaccompanied E6 & below personnel shall by assigned to the barracks upon arrival.
- Lodging Reimbursement: Retain all receipts, as you may be eligible for Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) reimbursement.
