WSMR holds Safety Stand-Down

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (June 27, 2024) On June 24, White Sands Missile Range Garrison Safety Office hosted a Safety Stand-Down day full of training and safety demonstrations provided to WSMR employees.

The day started with opening remarks from White Sands Missile Range Garrison Commander Col. Donyeill A. Mozer to kick off an OSHA training at the Post Theater.

“Thank you to Josh and Victoria, our Safety Officers for putting this together. Today’s Safety Stand-Down is a crucial moment for us to focus on the well-being of each member of our team. Safety is not just a priority; it is a core value of ours that ensures people perform our missions effectively so that we can return home to our loved ones. As your Garrison Commander I am committed to fostering a culture where safety is paramount. This is my first time addressing you all and I want you to know that I am dedicated to making sure that we all adhere to the highest safety standards. Safety is everyone’s responsibility and each one of us plays a vital role in maintaining a safe working environment. Your diligence and commitment to safety prevents accidents and saves lives,” said Mozer.

After the OSHA training, WSMR employees broke out into small group sessions learning about wildlife, safe water practices, substance abuse, driving on base, heat stress, CPR, and fire extinguisher use.

The day ended with a WSMR Fire Department fire rescue demonstration, showing WSMR employees their protocols for saving someone from a burning vehicle.
