WSMR Commander gives update at Installation Town Hall
White Sands Missile Range Commander Brig. Gen. Eric Little went over WSMR’s mission, vision, and priorities before giving a strategic perspective of a course he attended earlier this year during the April 13 Installation Town Hall held at the Post Theater.
Before going into the agenda, Little introduced the new Chief of Staff Jessica Brockmeyer, who comes to WSMR from Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
Brockmeyer said she was glad to be at WSMR and said it is her responsibility to make sure that all the leadership have what they need to get to the mission, vision, and priorities. “It is also my responsibility to make sure you have what you need because you are an integral part of that,” Brockmeyer said.
Little then went on to talk about the WSMR mission, vision, and priorities. He encouraged everyone to be well versed in what WSMR does. “Be able to communicate to your workforce what our mission is.”
He said the number one part of our vision is taking care of our people. “We are really trying to instill a culture of people first.” He said that also includes getting people back into training, education, conferences, and seminars to make the workforce better. “We are encouraging the development of our workforce.”
Little said one of the things that is missing from the vision is integration. “We have got to figure out a way to better integrate test, evaluation, experimentation, and training. That is where the joint force is moving.”
The other part that is missing is energy and resiliency. He said it is important for us to be better stewards of everything globally.
As far as priorities go it is people and modernization. “We talk about training and education, preparing for those futures missions. We need to make sure our workforce is trained and educated.”
After going over the mission, vision, and priorities Little went over the recent Defense Organizational Climate Survey (DEOCS). He said overall there was good participation in the DEOCS and highlighted some points. “My plea to everyone in the workforce is to please provide feedback.”
“We have a responsibility to take care of our workforce and treat everyone with dignity and respect. If you see it correct it.”
Finally, he gave a strategic perspective of a mandated capstone class he attended earlier this year where he got a chance to visit several countries and received a European Theater update.
WSMR Garrison Commander Col. David Mitchel talked about an upcoming Enrichment Day scheduled for April 19 where high school students will be coming on post to get a taste of what it means to serve.
He also said that traffic on Owen Road will soon be rerouted and speed will be reduced.
Also, as part of the Army Continuing Education Center the Education Center will be open Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and education services will be provided.
