Reyes Sandoval on Why He Serves
WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (March 23, 2022) Reyes Sandoval, Head Chef and Kitchen Manager of the Frontier Club at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), has been working on base since 2001, where he started as a line cook. Before building his career at WSMR, he was a cook for hotels and notable local restaurants, such as the Double Eagle in Mesilla. As the only one in his family displaying a natural talent for cooking, Sandoval made working in the food industry his life’s passion, and dreams of attending culinary school one day.
Being one of the best multi-taskers his teammates have ever worked with, you will find Sandoval doing anything from managing the kitchen during an event, to stepping in on the lunch line to make burritos when they are low on staff. “I like to see people happy when they eat the food I have made,” Sandoval said. When asked why he enjoys working at WSMR, he explained, “Each building and team on base is like a family, and I enjoy the positivity that comes with being part of the greater community on base.”
Sandoval lives in Las Cruces with his wife and three daughters. When he isn’t working he is spending time with family, tending to his vegetable garden, playing the guitar, or working on a remodeling project.
