Auto Skills Center on WSMR offers routine maintenance and self-service resources

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (April 29, 2022) Anthony Luttrell, White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) Automotive Mechanic has been working on post maintaining vehicles for 10 years. He first started as an Assistant Mechanic at the Auto Skills Center, then worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for the U.S. Army Family and Morale Welfare and Recreation program (Army MWR), and returned to the center where he has been an Automotive Mechanic for the past four years.

The center provides basic maintenance services such as oil changes, tire replacement and rotations, and battery changes. The center carries common oils, filters, batteries, and fluids. You can either supply your own parts, or buy them from the center and Luttrell can provide the labor on your car at $80 per hour.

You can also rent a bay to perform your own auto maintenance. In order to have access to the skill center’s tools, equipment, and waste disposal services, you must carry a Department of Defense identification card, print and fill out the Auto Skills Standard Operating Procedure form and the Auto Skills Shop Card Q&A test under the mandatory auto safety skills center course on their website. After Luttrell reviews your paper work you will receive a Shop Card, which is needed every time you rent a bay in the shop.

The Auto Skills Center is open Tuesday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Calling ahead of time to check availability is highly encouraged.
