August is Antiterrorism Awareness Month
August is Antiterrorism Awareness Month in the Army. For the 15th year, ATEC will join the Secretary of the Army's call to action for Soldiers, Army Civilians, Retirees, and Family Members to be aware of the potential dangers and threats to our team, and our mission posed by terrorism. We are asking all of us to be both vigilant and prepared, to identify potential acts of terrorism and react appropriately in the case of an event.
The purpose of Antiterrorism Awareness Month within ATEC is to instill organization-wide heightened vigilance, and sense of preparedness to protect our most critical equities and personnel by preventing an act of terrorism within our formation. Our focus themes for this year are: iWatch Army, Don't Be a Bystander, Insider Threat, Active Shooter, and Reporting Suspicious Activity or Behavior.
An active defense against terrorist-related attacks is the responsibility of individuals as well as communities. When we are armed with a dynamic awareness and full-fledged preparedness, we build the first line of defense against all potential nefarious actors meaning to do us harm.
We encourage leaders to make careful and continuous improvements within our antiterrorism plans and programs to guard ourselves against the full spectrum of persistent terrorist threats at home and overseas. We should be cautious of the increasing threat of extremism and potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities. We challenge leaders to leverage resources and expertise from throughout our formation to fortify the protection of our communities.
As part of our observance of Antiterrorism Awareness Month, everyone should seek to integrate the focused themes of the Army into their professional and personal lives. ATEC members should identify individual ways they can contribute to the collective effort of keeping our Command and our Army safe from those who would do us harm. Attaining a high level of awareness is our most certain defense against terrorists and extremists.
