The Army Aviation Branch celebrates its 40th birthday

On April 12, 1983, Gen. John Wickham, U.S. Army Chief of Staff, signed General Order 6 establishing the Army Aviation Branch as a separate branch of the combat arms. Headquartered at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence at Fort Rucker, Alabama, the branch utilizes fixed-wing UAV’s, traditional fixed-wing, and rotary aircraft to achieve air superiority in any area of operation. Today, we celebrate the Army Aviation Branch’s commitment to honoring the past and transforming the future through operating and fighting on a complex, expansive, and lethal impending battlefield.
