April is Child Abuse Awareness Month
In recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month, the White Sands Missile Range Command team signed a proclamation April 6 at Army Community Service to show their commitment to providing a safe environment for children.
WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. Eric Little, and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Devin Winnegan signed the proclamation to kick off the month of events.
Amanda A. Carreras, Family Advocacy Program Manager at Army Community Service, said the Army 2023 theme is “MilParents Rock”.
"This event was held to honor the lives of those we’ve lost to intentional child abuse and neglect. Let’s be reminded of the ever so sensitive matter, in which, the topic of child abuse and neglect exists,” Carreras said. "We each have a role to play as we work together to protect the most vulnerable population among us."
The event was marked with a prayer vigil attended by the WSMR community to honor the lives of those who have lost their lives due to child abuse and neglect and to bring awareness to the community. The prayer invocation was led by WSMR RSO Staff Sgt. Tekeia Wallace, followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of these children.
"Among many, risk factors that significantly impact our home here at White Sands Missile Range are marital conflict, domestic violence, unemployment, and deployments," Carreras said.
Here are the remaining events scheduled for this month as the campaign continues.
