Physical Preparation:

This program is a 12-week training cycle designed to prepare Soldiers for the physical rigors of the Sapper Leader Course (SLC). The primary focus is on building cardiovascular capacity to meet the constant physical demands encountered during the course, while also enhancing strength. Training during physical training (PT) sessions differs significantly from the continuous, intensive training required throughout the SLC. The conditioning components, while they may appear monotonous, will be crucial in determining whether participants successfully complete the course and earn the Sapper designation.

The program consists of six days of training per week. Detailed information regarding the program is provided in the following pages and is also accessible on the course website. Screenshots included throughout the packet serve as reference materials.

Weeks 1-5 comprise three strength training days and three conditioning days, facilitating the development of a solid strength foundation while improving overall conditioning.

Weeks 6-12 will include two strength training days and four conditioning days, concentrating on the transfer of strength to endurance, with an emphasis on increasing total time on feet. Most conditioning activities will be conducted at low intensity, allowing participants to gain experience in sustained movement and adapt to the associated demands.
