
LTC Robert C. Cuthbertson
Lieutenant Colonel Bob Cuthbertson is a US Army Special Forces officer and assumed command as the Garrison Commander of Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia on 29 July 2022. Born at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he is third generation Army and raised as an Army brat. He received his commission in Field Artillery from the Virginia Military Institute in 2003.
From 2004 - 2009 he served as a paratrooper in the 82d Airborne. His assignments included Company Fire Support Officer with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment; Battery Executive Officer and Battery Fire Direction Officer for B Battery, 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment; and Battalion Fire Direction Officer for 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his time in the 82d Airborne he deployed to Iraq in 2004 and 2007 for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and to Afghanistan in 2005 for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2008 he received a waiver to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course out of year group subsequently graduating from the Special Forces pipeline in 2010. He then served as a Detachment Commander for Operational Detachment – Alpha 3125 deploying to Kyrgyzstan for a Security Cooperation mission and to Afghanistan for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Following his time in 3rd Special Forces Group he served as the U.S. Army Special Operations Command liaison to the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, California service as a deputy N-3. Returning to Fort Bragg, North Carolina he served as the Battalion Executive Officer and Battalion Operations Officer for 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group Airborne; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander for the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center and School; and the deputy G-3 at the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center and School. His last assignment was to Stuttgart, Germany where he served numerous roles in the J-3 at Special Operations Command Africa.
Lieutenant Colonel Cuthbertson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the Virginia Military Institute. He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, and several special operations schools. He is currently halfway thru his pursuit for his Masters in Executive Leadership from Liberty University. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (with oakleaf cluster), Defense Meritorious Service, Meritorious Service (with two oakleaf clusters), Army Commendation, Navy Commendation, and Army Achievement Medals (with two oakleaf clusters), the Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Combat Dive Supervisor Badge; Jumpmaster and the Special Forces Tab.
