The Legal Assistance Office prepares powers of attorney and notarization on an appointment basis. Legal counseling by a legal assistance attorney is also available on an appointment basis for most personal legal issues. The legal assistance attorney does not advise commanders or supervisors (Trial Counsel or Administrative Law attorneys). Army regulation 27-3 does not permit legal assistance attorneys to give advice on employment law, private businesses, or against the United States Government. The Army on Okinawa investigates and processes several types of claims including: Afﬁrmative (Government Claims), and Military Tort Claims, Status of Forces Agreement Claims, and Article 139 Claims. Information about where to file Personnel Claims (Household Goods) is also provided.
