FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)
Why is TAP important?
TAP is a Commander's program mandated by law that supports the Veteran's Opportunity to Work (VOW) Act and Department of Defense/Army Transition Policy. The program's goal is to prepare Soldiers for transition, reduce the number of unemployed Veterans, and reduce the stress our Soldiers and their Families experience during the transition process. Commanders and Directors will manage and facilitate the transition process for Soldiers leaving active duty starting 18 months prior (24 months for Retirees) but not later than 12 months prior to separation.
What do I need to bring to class?
How can I contact VA reps?
VA counselors are co-located with the Transition Assistance Program and provide one on one appointments and facilitate the VA Benefits and Services class. VA counselors can’t submit claims for disability, but can provide information on claim requirements and how the claim process works. If you would like to speak with the VA representative please call 571-461-8425 or 913-684-2844.
What is the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program? (HOH)
Hiring Our Heroes is a structured Corporate Fellowship held 3 times per year with specific cohort dates lasting 12 weeks. It is a competitive program and provides transitioning service members with management training and hands on experience in the civilian workforce. Yes! A service member’s transition impacts the whole Family. Spouses are encouraged to attend classes, such as the Entrepreneurship class, Department of Labor Employment Workshop or the Financial Planning class.
Ask your counselor for additional details. Seats are available as resources and capacity allow.
Individuals must be registered into TAP XXI and bring their DoD ID card to class.
