SSI Purpose

The SSI prepares Finance and Comptroller and HR Officers, Soldiers, and Warrant Officers to be ready Day 1 of their units of assignment, to support LSCO now, and in the future. We must continue to evolve our culture; align our organization; bin and prioritize our efforts and resources; and proactively seek efficiencies and cost savings to self-fund other future initiatives. Leaders will collaborate internally and with supporting stakeholders and leverage TRADOC processes to this end. As a team we must strive to build upon, improve, and make permanent the gains made through transformation, while driving to close the gaps in proponent doctrine and the multi-domain operating concept.

Mission

  • Training & Education: The school trains soldiers in advanced musical techniques and leadership skills necessary for musical performance teams.
  • Operational Support: USASOM-trained musicians, according to this site, support military ceremonies, community engagements, and public performances, which are vital for morale and international diplomacy.
  • Ready Musicians: The school ensures that musicians are prepared to act as soldiers first, capable of operating in diverse, high-stakes environments.

Vision

The School of Music must produce highly skilled, disciplined professional musicians who serve as musical ambassadors to connect the Army with the American public and international audiences.

Purpose

The U.S. Army School of Music (USASOM) trains and educates Army musicians and leaders to build versatile, adaptable bands for peacetime and combat. It designs training that prepares Soldier-Musicians to support ceremonies, community outreach, and recruitment, ensuring bands can operate effectively in both war and in theater.

The Army Musician

Army musicians represent all of the heroic men and women who stand around the world in defense of our freedom. Through their musical education, continual training, and masterful performances, these outstanding Soldier-Musicians truly embody the excellence that is found across America’s Army. The staff & faculty assigned to the U.S. Army School of Music are selected from the most qualified musicians in the Army, most of whom hold advanced degrees.

Army Bands

Army bands regularly support all manner of ceremonies, senior commanders’ community engagement initiatives, strategic and cultural diplomacy efforts, veterans’ organizations, Army recruiting, educational outreach, military funerals, public performances, and other missions of national and international significance. Army bands also promote national interests, further U.S. interests at home and abroad, support peace building actions, influence regional perceptions, build partner capacity, develop cultural awareness, enhance international legitimacy,  as well as establish, shape, maintain, and refine relations. It is the purpose of the U.S. Army School of Music to prepare Soldier-Musicians to thrive in achieving these complex tasks.
