Brig. Gen. Michael J. Liesmann, Deputy Commanding General
U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence

Brig. Gen. Michael J. Liesmann is the Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence. Prior to assuming this position, he served as the Mobilization Assistant to the Director of Intelligence, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
 
Liesmann enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1985, and began his Army career as an Attack Helicopter Pilot serving on active duty with the 6th Cavalry Brigade until 1993. After the events of 9/11, Liesmann returned to service with the Texas Army National Guard, serving as an aviation planner, Attack Helicopter Company Commander and Aviation Intelligence Officer until his transition to Military Intelligence in 2012.
 

He has held multiple Military Intelligence assignments including Intelligence Battalion and Brigade command and Division G2. Liesmann has extensive operational and combat experience including deployments to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. He also served as the G2 and Senior Intelligence Officer for the Army National Guard at the National Guard Bureau.

Liesmann commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Indiana State University in 1989. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and master’s degrees from American Military University and the U.S. Army War College. His military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic Course, Aviation and Military Intelligence Officer Advance Courses, Command and General Staff College, the United States Army War College, two Executive Education Seminars at Harvard University and the Joint and Combined Warfighting School.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, NATO Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Aviator Badge and the Parachutist Badge.
