Timeline

You should start the Soldier For Life-Transition Assistance Program 12-18 months prior to separation. If you're planning to retire after 20+ years of service, you can start as early as 24 months out.

To receive the maximum benefit from the program, you should:

  • 12-18 months out
    • Individualized Initial Counseling and Self-Assessment (this must be done first)
    • Pre-Separation Counseling

    • Army Day
      • MY Transition
      • MOS Crosswalk
      • Financial Planning for Transition
    • 9-12 months out
      • Department of Labor's Employment Fundamentals
    • 7-9 months out
      • Veterans Affairs Benefits & Services with eBenefits Registration
    • 4-7 months out
      • Continuum of Military Service Counseling (active component only)
    • 4-6 months out
      • Career Tracks
      • Capstone (must be done last)
