WSMR Summer Camps have a lot to offer

School is out and summer break here children at White Sands Missile Range have a lot of options on how to spend their summer vacation.

The Child and Youth Services program at WSMR is offering a variety of summer camps starting on May 31.

Kim Arrey, School Liaison Officer for Child and Youth Services, said they have several sports clinics and weekly summer camp options for students, which include arts and crafts, sport activities, electronics, gardening, cooking, and several other options.

“It gives them something to do during the summer months,” Arrey said of the camps. “They can go and interact with kids their own ages and it gives them a chance to socialize. They also learn new skills whether it is cooking, gardening, or coding for robotics. It is important to keep busy 0during the summer months.”

Also, with a lot of the COVID restrictions being lifted both programs are going to be going on field trips, which they hadn’t been able to do in the past two years. Arrey said this is something the kids and staff are looking forward to.

The cost for the weekly camps is based on the total family income and there are 13 categories.

Camps are open to families that are associated with WSMR to include military and civilians. Parents can register their children at the Parent Central Office inside the Professional Development Center.

Camp Innovation, a robotics camp, will be offered for free July 11-15. The five-day camp will teach your child how to build and program robots, while making friends for years to come.
